R E S P E C T .. this is what it means to me..

You all know this, if you want to be seen on Social Media, you need to start producing video content. There is the argument for artists, “Why should I give my work and ideas away for free?” For me, that is a totally valid concern.

I’ve been teaching abstract art online since 2009. Since 2009, the income I produce is needed for my family’s bottom line. I absolutely need to be seen on social media (Instagram specifically) so I need to play the game. But it is very important that I do not share the same information that I provide to my abstract painting students. I can’t invalidate the trust and customer service with my students that I have been taking so much pride in building for all these years.

So what’s the point then? The video content that I am posting on Instagram is not from any of my current workshop catalogue, and if it is, it is a very small glimpse in which the complete process is indiscernible. I post these small weekly videos on Instagram to add value to the platform and to establish myself as a trustworthy source for quality information. I have so much experience in painting, that it is easy for me to place myself in the shoes of someone who may not have the same level of experience as me and provide them with inspiration and information that I have learned throughout my creative journey.

I also think that the short video clips are more of a source of entertainment than educational. Not everyone will participate in one of my workshops, but those that are interested in my process and my style of painting will see me and will benefit much more from a complete workshop (either with or without my daily coaching) than the short 15-20 second clips.

The internet is changing so rapidly. I am grateful to have been online for so long! Sharing the information with this level of personal experience is easy and fun.
