Another paint over!

I always like to think that if I am long gone, someone will find my paintings as part of a buried treasure somewhere. When they send it to the laboratory for analysis, to see if it indeed is a real, “Julie Prichard” original painting, the scientists will be excited to see that not only are they holding one painting, but close examination reveals that there is a second painting underneath! A fun dream to have..

When I post a red painting on my social media channels, it will undoubtedly get the highest engagement. However, I have never sold a red abstract painting. Since I have limited storage space, I decided to paint over this piece:

This painting was never one of my favorites, so I painted over it!

As expected, painting over a red popular painting generated mixed reviews. While most users were excited to see the new art, some users felt compelled to tell me I was making a huge mistake. I love that a painting generates that much energy!

The revision of the red painting is entitled, “Recess”. I used acrylic paint, artist neocolor II crayon and pencil. I am still working off the principles in my “Expanding on Color” online workshop. The workshop makes choosing a harmonious color palette so easy! I will never tire of working through that workshop.

Working with abstract shapes is challenging, so it is always rewarding when a composition comes to fruition. The process involves many layers and painting sessions, with scrutiny and study as the layers progress. I love the feeling of pushing and pulling the layers into their final shapes so much.

I feel like the abstract paintings will never go out of style (compared to florals or figurative pieces). If you would like to add one of my originals to your collection, please click this link to see all of my available artworks. A word of caution when shopping for my pieces: My original paintings are only sold through my website here. Beware of 3rd party sellers claiming to be selling my originals. If you come across my paintings on a 3rd party website and are unsure of their authenticity, please feel free to email me.

Thank you for stopping in this weekend! I have some layers behind me calling my name 💜
