A recap of more free acrylic and mixed media video tutorials!

If you are new here, I usually post two free tutorials on my instagram account every week! The videos are short (and set to trendy audio, of course) but the information I write in the captions and the comments I receive are valuable. I hope you are taking the time to read through that info. If you are enjoying those little videos, please do leave me a comment on each video you like. I really need that feedback to gauge the crowd and understand what I should film next. I here to show you there really are people taking the time to make fun and informative content on the platform!

Take a look at this video I made to showcase the difference in viscosity between two popular fluid acrylic mediums. I am pouring matte medium and air brush medium and you can see how much one spreads more than the other. When you are shopping for an acrylic medium, it is easy to see which ones are liquid and which ones are gel in the supply aisle. However, each of these can give you very different results. I can think of many ways to use either!

If 2024 is going to be your creative year, I filmed a little clip of some art supply must haves that I can’t live without in my studio. I am curious to know if any of your favorites made the list. Click here to watch the video.

What type of information do you consider when buying a tube or bottle of yellow paint?

I went through a phase when I collected every color in the art supply store. Now, with my study of pigments (see the Expanding on Color online workshop), I only pick the colors that I know will mix well. This is how I know I won’t buy paint that I do not like, and I don’t waste it making mud. In this short video, I show you two of my favorite yellow pigments.

This one is for all of the professional artists out there: With every painting I sell, not only do I send a hand written thank you note, but I also pack up a few promotional materials to send with the artwork. These materials cost little to make, but they are very beautiful (just like your painting!). Pro tip: Send two so that your collector can give one to a friend. Boom- free marketing! Here are the materials in action.

I was thinking about the feel of the paint moving through my artwork and the physical motions I use when creating. Some tools allow my hands to get close to the canvas, and those with longer handles require an entirely different grip and set of movements. Here is a video where I compare the two. Which do you prefer?

Write it down in your planner, or set an alarm to remind you- more free video tutorials will be coming in January 2024! I hope to see you then.
