Anytime you'd like to paint..

One of the things that my students always appreciate is seeing my paintings in stages. I’ve been sharing process photos in my private teaching group for a while now and I think they paint a realistic picture of how a painting gets from here to there.

When I teach online, my full sized workshops include instruction of paintings start to finish. Students are welcome to watch the vides and paint along with them or to watch the video all the way through and then paint from memory. I help students with either process. However, when you watch a painting progress on video, sometimes the stages are lost because (unless you screen shot them along the way.)

Take a look at the first stage in my newest painting:

A painting in progress by Julie Prichard.

I don’t think there is an easy way to get from point A to point B in abstract art. To me, abstract art is problem solving. I put paint down and see what happens. I edit, cover, pull forward and push back repeatedly until the painting is finished. It’s not always easy- but I love it.

The most common problem I hear from students is that they are stuck and that they don’t know what to do next when they paint this way. I encourage all of my students to come in and post their work in my private facebook group so that we can work on it together. With experience and thorough feedback (which I provide for free with all full sized workshops), the process gets easier and easier. (Um, hello? Can you image how much teaching you can read for free in that group? It’s a lot of problem solving, mark ups and best practices!)

Here is how this painting transformed:

I use the processes outlined in my “Expanding on Color” online workshop for all of my paintings now, and my collection is growing. From where I am now in my artistic journey compared to where I was 2 years ago, paintings are much easier and I am using less paint. I am not wasting any paint. The workshop is not a “one and done” situation, it is more of an artists change. The workshop is loaded with best practice and techniques that you will be able to apply to your own practice as you shape and grow your skills as well..and I am happy to help every step of the way!

I am currently accepting new students… to be honest, I do not know how much longer I can say that, but for all of the students who are already enrolled in the workshops, I will support you as long as I can- lifetime access.
