When something really "big" happens, it is so easy to get sucked into the television, facebook or any other media outlet and get lost deep inside.. We are left to figure out what is an immediate danger and what is pure sensationalism.. We've made the break away from it all in this weeks art lesson: Print Making.

Katsushika Hokusai's masterpiece is a wood carved block print. We used Styrofoam to make our own quick plates and turned the prints into stationary. Fun and easy..and it will make the kids say "Wow"!

Cut the center out of a Styrofoam plate and use a pencil to create the design. Load the brayer with acrylic paint and roll it over the Styrofoam until the plate is adequately covered with paint. Turn the plate over and press it onto pre-cut cardstock. Once these are dry, your child will have his or her own set of custom made stationary. My 5 year old loved this project, why not give it a try this week? There's nothing better than a hand made note.
